Cable Project Management Program
Goal
To manage the procurement of Electrical Cable for a major FPSO Project. Working together, Eutex and the client developed specification for cables, identified the initial requirements and subsequent top-ups. Eutex developed a Quality Plan after discussions and liaison with the client and the shipbuilder. Key project deliverables were agreed and actioned. This particular FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage, Offloading asset) is the world’s deepest disconnectable FPSO in the world. The converted Suezmax FPSO has a turret with a disconnectable buoy (Buoyant Turret Mooring or BTM) allowing it to weather in normal condition and disconnect form the FPSO during a hurricane.
The Challenge
At time of contract placement, our key supplier had limited manufacturing capacity available due to other projects. As the expediting time frame for the project was short – Eutex had to carefully plan the supply of individual cable types and sizes to meet the project deadlines without compromising quality and delivery of project.
Our Approach
Each project we are awarded is handled by an Internal Project Manager. We initiate the project with a kick-off meeting to introduce the team from both Eutex and the client. This is the best approach to ensure all members know each other and expectations from both companies. A QA Planning document is then initiated, signed off by both parties.
A specific project email account was established to ensure all parties are notified. Our Internal Manager visited the manufacturing plant to ensure that Eutex worked diligently with the factory to ensure that timeframes of manufacture were met and were consistent throughout the process. Eutex Project Managers are highly experienced in project management and anticipate daily the challenges. Communication is kept professional at all times and daily / weekly updates are given.
Value Proposition: $6 million+
- Initial timeline concerns overcome by consistent monitoring and communicating with factory representatives. Calls and updates daily with factory project manager.
- Documentation procedures and templates were set up and approved at the beginning of the project. This resulted in clear understanding between Eutex and client for paperwork and end documentation.
- Each shipment was advised to the client and client collected. All reels were numbered and color coded with client details in accordance the the QA plan. • Weekly updated were provided to the client against the delivery schedule. The shipyard was also included in the updates and advised of on-site delivery in line with cable pulling plans.
- Agreed documentation package requirements were discussed with the client documentation team at the out-set and appropriate documentation sent with each shipment. A complete set of binders was issued with full test certification and appropriate documentation at the close of the project.
- Closing project meetings always occur, initiated by Eutex Project team to discuss the project / timelines / communication / Quality / Quality of product / What went well, what went wrong and learning opportunities for next project.
