Train the team.
Protect the people
and the assets.

A certified installation is only as strong as the people maintaining it. Non-conformances found during periodic inspection are most commonly caused by teams working without current hazardous area competence.

EUTEX training is delivered from Houston by IECEx and CompEx qualified instructors. Courses cover IEC 60079 and NEC 500/505 standards, hazardous area competency certification, and specialist hydrogen awareness.

Frequently
asked

Common questions about hazardous area specification.

HazLoc (Hazardous Location) certification is the North American framework for approving electrical equipment for use in locations where flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dust may be present. It is governed by NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and uses a Class and Division classification system. Equipment must be tested and certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) before it can be installed in a classified hazardous location.

IECEx is the international certification scheme for equipment and personnel competence in explosive atmospheres, administered by the International Electrotechnical Commission. It is required or preferred on offshore, LNG, and international industrial projects, particularly where European, Australian, or international project specifications apply. IECEx certification is recognized in more than 50 countries. Companies operating IECEx Service Facilities conduct inspection and compliance documentation review to IEC 60079 series standards.

The certification process begins with a complete and accurate compliance documentation package that proves the installation is compliant. This includes area classification drawings, an equipment schedule with Ex documentation for each item, inspection records, and maintenance history. The documentation is reviewed against the applicable standard (NEC, IECEx, or ATEX). An inspection is conducted where required. Once all documentation and inspection findings meet the standard, the certificate is issued.
